On October 31, 2017 the Kinderstars are invited to dress-up in any fashion they would like to celebrate the Harvest Soiree. We will have a parade throughout the preschool and also visit other areas of the Burlington High School and the Superintendent's office. (Perhaps a special shirt, a sparkly tutu, a costume, a wig, a hat, etc, **please keep all weapons, light sabers at home). If your child does not wish to dress-up, it is not required. If you would like your child to participate and your child needs to change into their special clothes, please send your child’s dress up clothes in a bag labeled with their name. We will help them change into their costume before the parade. If you have any questions regarding the soiree, please contact me msmith@bpsk12.org.

There will also be time allotted for Q & A. Please join us for this important evening. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 (snow date - January 18, 2018) Burlington High School Auditorium 7:00 - 8:30 PM Please note: this evening is for parents/guardians only
With the uncertainty of tomorrow’s predicted snow and its timing, I wanted to warn you of the possibility of an early dismissal.
If Dr. Conti calls for an early dismissal of the Burlington Public Schools on Wednesday, February 7, all BECC students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM, and there will be no afternoon preschool. Nothing is certain at this time, however, I wanted to give you time make preparations if needed. At this time, Dr. Conti is watching the weather and will make a decision when he has more information about the track of the storm.
The Kinderstars have been rolling right along with their learning. This month we have continued working on Unit 7 - Shadows and Reflections. The students have learned why we see shadows, what makes shadows change, and what a reflection is. They have really enjoyed singing the song My Shadow and finally being able to see their own shadows during recess.
Books We Read:
Moonbear’s Shadow When Tomo Moves The Paper Bag Princess Raccoon on his Own The Ugly Duckling Zinnia’s Flower Garden Birds The Very Hungry Caterpillar The Puddle Pail Llama Llama Home With Mama A Chair for my Mother Once There Was A Caterpillar
Literacy:
The Kinderstars have been reading and illustrating many poems, including Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring is Here, and Rain. We have begun to read simple early reader books including Butterfly, Butterfly. The children have been introduced to vowels, and consonants. We have recently learned to blend the consonant and vowels together to read simple words.
Math:
This month we continue to work on the numbers 1 - 20. Also, we have learned the addition, subtraction, and equal symbols and their meaning. We continue to work on proper number writing.
Science:
During April we were busy talking about shadows, and reflections and the students were busy exploring using flashlights, mirrors and pattern blocks. We learned what symmetry means and made beautiful butterflies.
Social Skills:
We continue perfecting Whole Body Listening skills and walking quietly in the halls. We have introduced the saying “hands on lips, hands on hips” to remind the students to be quiet and have hands to themselves when walking back from lunch or in the halls.
Reminders:
No School - Monday, May 28, 2018 - Memorial Day
End of the Year Kinderstar Presentation - Friday June 15, 2018 - 11:45 am.
The Kinderstars have a class wide behavior plan in place. This involves a ten frame and every time the whole class is behaving properly, and doing what is asked, they receive a star. When the ten stars are in the frame the Kinderstars are rewarded with a special event.
This week the Kinderstars earned their tenth star. We will have a Super Hero day on Friday, October 5, 2018. Your child can come to school with their Super Hero attire.
Thank you, Margaret Smith, Arielle Crocker, Rhonda Casper
As we approach flu and cold season I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about Burlington Public Schools policy and procedures regarding when and when not to send your child to school. Please review the "Red, Yellow, Green Light" illness guidelines found here. It is imperative that every student and staff member abide by these guidelines to keep our school healthy and safe. At school we encourage and teach proper handwashing to limit the spread of disease. Please help your child with this at home as well. Please remember that this is important to keep every child safe, especially our students with immunodeficiencies. I kindly ask for your cooperation with this and please don't hesitate to contact me with any quesitons or concerns.
Please be advised that we are now eating our lunch in our classroom. Since we have several students with peanut and tree nut allergies please do not send these in your child’s lunch or snack.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely, Margaret Smith, Arielle Crocker, Rhonda Casper
